Common Mutations is a completely unplanned, improvised set of songs which were recorded during The Garden Sessions at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas. Eckroth and Lefebvre spent a large amount of time during the pandemic improvising in a room of keyboards, modular synths, effects pedals and drum machines. The idea was to bring this into a studio setting with a live drummer, then hand it over to producer/engineer Jason Kingsland to add and subtract and play with effects during the mixing process. The end result is wild.

Новый релиз “Common Mutations” американской мультиинструменталистки, композитора и певицы Рейчел Экрот (Rufus Waintwright, St.Vincent, KT Tunstall, Donny McCaslin, Tia Fuller, Chris Botti) получился спонтанным и импровизированным продолжением записи альбома The Garden — номинанта на 64ую премию Grammy в категории лучший инструментальный альбом. В EP вошли три трека, записанных в техасской студии Sonic Ranch в соавторстве с бас-гитаристом и продюсером Тимом Лефевром (The Black Crowes, Empire of the Sun, David Bowie's “Blackstar”, Wayne Krantz) и барабанщиком Крисченом Юманом (Kurt Elling, Billy Childs, Walter Smith III, Geoff Keezer, Jacob Collier, Mike Moreno, Marquis Hill). “Common Mutations” и два музыкальных видео к релизу выходят 11 февраля на петербургском джазовом лейбле Rainy Days.
Музыку Экрот и Лефевр начали писать во время пандемии. В самоизоляции они много времени импровизировали с клавишными, модульными синтезаторами, разными эффектами и драм-машинами. Основной идеей было перенести все придуманные материалы для записи с живыми барабанами в студию, а затем передать их продюсеру Джейсону Кингсленду для финального микширования. Результат получился в хорошем смысле безумным!
